I'm Back Again!!
Well......
.....Things are looking up a little this week. I can finally hang my leg a little without the aching and throbbing, so have moved on to using the crutches a little more. Oh, my, am I a sight. Actually, I haven't taken a tumble for a week now, so things are definitly improving. The wheel chair is still nice for getting around home and when I go out shopping and such. I'm still in a fiberglass cast for another week and then I'll have exrays and see what's next. I'm so hoping for something a little less binding. The pain has subsided, but after being up on it for long, it swells and gets very uncomfortable. Thats my sign that I need to be back to the sofa or bed for more elevation and icepacks. Not my idea of fun!! Overall, even though I find it very hard to be held down, I'm trying to be patient and serve my time. They are still saying twelve weeks before weight bearing.......I'm a third of the way there!! YeeHaw!!
I had a wonderful weekend away last weekend with Mom, Dad, Mindi, Eamon, & Macyn. We ventured to Spokane for a visit with the Stulc's. I was a little apprehensive of the ride over, but with the help of a pain and anxiety pill, it was smooth sailing. The visit was great. We did a little shopping, checked out Tim's beautiful newly remodeled office building and got to enjoy Caseys company as he was home on spring break. (Thank you Casey for all your nursing care.....have you considered changing your major to healthcare?? Dad and I kept you quite busy!) It was great to see Erin, also.....hard to believe, she's all grown up and ready to graduate. Thank you for being such a great "Nanny" to Eamon and Macyn. Hmm....I'm sure if you were to choose to be a Montana Grizzly, we could arrange some work-study daycare jobs in Missoula. Also, while there, Debbie treated Mom and I to an evening out to see "Regis". It was so enjoyable! We all enjoy his daytime show, so it was fun to see him "live". He certainly has a sparkle about him. He was performing at a casino near Spokane, so afterward we met Mindi, Casey and Dad there for a little fun. I played a slot machine and with Casey's encouragement to cash out as I was winning and put my winnings away, I ended up with $130.00 profit (all, off of $5.00). Thanks also Casey for being my financial consultant. A big "thank-you" to Deb and Tim, as their hospitality is second to none. It was so good to get away..........
I (Bret, too) would also like to thank all my great customers, neighbors, family and friends for all your thoughts, prayers, food, visits and well wishes over this past month. I feel so honored with all the great blessings. Everything is so appreciated.
Till next time................

Finally~~~An Update!!
Wow....It's been awhile. Picking up where I left off..... I reported to MDMH fo
r my surgery on March 4. The Surgery Center team were surprised to see me, being that I had just been there in December for an unexpected gallbladder surgery. Anyway, my "friends" there were very welcoming and got me all settled in for my new adventure. Before long, I was introduced to Dr. Greg Behm, the orthopedic specialist who would be "putting the pieces" back together. The surgery was scheduled to take around an hour, but after getting started, "the team" found there was more damage than anticipated. After almost two hours, a long plate and eleven pins and screws, they tell me my leg is secure again. I've also been informed I'm now on Dr. Behm's Top 10 Worst Leg/Ankle Fractures List. Whoohoo!! Post surgery was a little tough.....what was to be an out-patient surgery turned into an overnight stay. I had some problems with anxiety and pain, so they recommended I stay till they were able to get the medication under control. What a trick that was... Since then, I've spent most of my time on the sofa with my leg propped and wrapped in ice. They recommend that I keep it up for a couple more weeks, until I get a little less swelling and a little more healing. I was in for my checkup on Thursday. They removed the stitches and put a new cast on. I will have this cast for three weeks. Then, hopefully a splint/wrap with a boot, so I can start moving my ankle a little. Unfortunately, they're still saying 12 weeks before any weight......Ugh!!
As for my "Home Health" care, I feel so blessed.....Friends and family have kept us eating like royalty.....Bret especially appreciates that~~he loves the variety and doesn't have to cook after working all day. He has been a God-send keeping up the housework, laundry, and kids schedules....along with my medications and special orders. I am also so thankful for my mom who comes out every morning and helps me get my day going.......showering, breakfast and whatever else I need. She has also helped a lot with housework and errands. She's a great taxi..........I even get to sit in the back........just like uptown.
Mom and I met a friend of Katies in Stevensville on Friday to get Eamon for a couple days. He is such a sweetie. I've missed having him as my tag-along the last few weekends. He is staying at Mom and Dad's, but he's been out to visit each day. He thinks it's pretty cool that Grammy Sue has a dinosaur "castoo" (tatoo) on her cast. He also loves to push the wheelchair.........kinda scary!!
Once again, I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
Happy St. Patrick's Day & Think Spring!!

Wednesday's Schedule

Well, I spoke with the pre-op nurse today, and they have me set up to be at the hospital at 1:00 Wednesday afternoon to be pieced back together. I'm a little (actually, a lot!!) nervous about the whole procedure, but am looking forward to feeling like I'm finally on the mend. It's scheduled to be an outpatient surgery, but depending on what time they get started, I may have to stay the night. It's been a really long week. I'm so thankful for my great family and friends who've come to my rescue with comfort food, medical supplies, prayers and general help. I so appreciate everything!! Wow, I don't know what we'd have done without you all. I feel blessed! Once again.....thank you to all.
