Finally~~~An Update!!

Wow....It's been awhile. Picking up where I left off..... I reported to MDMH for my surgery on March 4. The Surgery Center team were surprised to see me, being that I had just been there in December for an unexpected gallbladder surgery. Anyway, my "friends" there were very welcoming and got me all settled in for my new adventure. Before long, I was introduced to Dr. Greg Behm, the orthopedic specialist who would be "putting the pieces" back together. The surgery was scheduled to take around an hour, but after getting started, "the team" found there was more damage than anticipated. After almost two hours, a long plate and eleven pins and screws, they tell me my leg is secure again. I've also been informed I'm now on Dr. Behm's Top 10 Worst Leg/Ankle Fractures List. Whoohoo!! Post surgery was a little tough.....what was to be an out-patient surgery turned into an overnight stay. I had some problems with anxiety and pain, so they recommended I stay till they were able to get the medication under control. What a trick that was... Since then, I've spent most of my time on the sofa with my leg propped and wrapped in ice. They recommend that I keep it up for a couple more weeks, until I get a little less swelling and a little more healing. I was in for my checkup on Thursday. They removed the stitches and put a new cast on. I will have this cast for three weeks. Then, hopefully a splint/wrap with a boot, so I can start moving my ankle a little. Unfortunately, they're still saying 12 weeks before any weight......Ugh!!
As for my "Home Health" care, I feel so blessed.....Friends and family have kept us eating like royalty.....Bret especially appreciates that~~he loves the variety and doesn't have to cook after working all day. He has been a God-send keeping up the housework, laundry, and kids schedules....along with my medications and special orders. I am also so thankful for my mom who comes out every morning and helps me get my day going.......showering, breakfast and whatever else I need. She has also helped a lot with housework and errands. She's a great taxi..........I even get to sit in the back........just like uptown.
Mom and I met a friend of Katies in Stevensville on Friday to get Eamon for a couple days. He is such a sweetie. I've missed having him as my tag-along the last few weekends. He is staying at Mom and Dad's, but he's been out to visit each day. He thinks it's pretty cool that Grammy Sue has a dinosaur "castoo" (tatoo) on her cast. He also loves to push the wheelchair.........kinda scary!!
Once again, I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

Happy St. Patrick's Day & Think Spring!!

  1. Oh my gosh. That's some pretty crazy reconstruction. I think he used a few drywall screws! Hope you're feeling better.
